Adellijke titels / Nobility in the family
|
Hierarchy with nobility: Esquire ~ is not really a title. Prince / Duke / Marquis / Earl / Viscount / Baron / Knight
Hereditary titles are passed on through the male line, going to the eldest son after the death of the title holder. If there is no eldest son then the title goes back up the father-son line until another direct descendant can be found. If there is no-one, then the title become extinct.

Graaf / Gravin ~ Count / Countess

Zij is twee keer getrouwd geweest.
By doing genealogical research in 1996 the Probandus was able to find out that his father still had a sister by the name of Carla de Paula Lopes. She had sent a letter from Nunda in America, both in English and in Portuguese, to her sister in law. In this letter she wrote that her father sadly had died of a heart attack. It was by finding an address on the envelope that the Probandus had the means for doing genealogical research in the state of New York. She appeared to still live in Rochester, near the family estate (of her mothers side of the family), in Nunda. When the Probandus phoned her on mothers day, she told him that was the most beautiful mothers day present that she has ever had. She was married two times. The first marriage was with the Polish count Krzystof Jan Marja Skowronski [click here for his pedigree: treekrzysztofskowroskihskowroskiii.htm [82 KB]

Dear nephew Marnix Alexander,
My thoughts have been turmoil, both bitter and sweet since we spoke om May 12th. Naturally, I am very excited and thrilled to hear from you, and saddend that my father could not have had the opportunity to know what became of his beloved son. My father married your British grandmother, I know little about the circumstances of his first marriage, since he never talked about it to me, only that he had a son whom he hoped someday to find, and whom he loved dearly. His mother took my brother Derrick back to Europe in 1924 and didn´t return.

The grandmother that is mentioned above by the Probandus was named Gladys Copestake Harpur. His grandparents would eventually have a divorce in 1928, in Paris. His grandmother remarries into the rich Dutch family Smit van Gelder (well known for their paper ~ Dutch Landed Gentry), as a result of which his father spend a large part of his youth in Aerdenhout. As it turned out his father has also had a brother, however he died when he was born in 1929 in America.
