Graf openen! / Opening a grave!

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

In search of his ancestors the Probandus has done much research in the city of Recife in the state of Pernambuco in the north of Brazil. He discovered that the graves of his great grandparents were no longer present at the cemetery. Because they were prominent public figures of their time, their remains were kept in a church. The church was found, however, in Brazil the condition of the records are very poor and no documents were found relating to them. With help of one of his relatives, he went to the church to investigate. The local ‘Quasimodo’ (!) with a real hunch and a large bunch of rusty key’s was willing to assist. They were led to two cast-iron doors in the church which gave entrance to interior complex that was strewn with bricked up sepulchres. After much detective work the sepulchre was found. Unfortunately there was only a marble plate to be seen with very little text and no relevant data. The relative then went up to Quasimodo and started a conversation in Portuguese. After a while he took a ladder and started opening the grave with a chisel! After removing the marble plate, he removed two skulls, one of the great grandfather and one of the great grandmother of the Probandus (Carlos de Paula Lopes & Constanca Alvares Cabral). A lead box followed in which, as it turns out, pieces of bones, clothing and hair were still to be found.

Unfortunately there was no useful genealogical data to be discovered. Out of respect no pictures were taken!
